    Staying up? Are you staying up until 11pm tonight? You should be. Channel Nine has suddenly realised that without sailing they have no winners, so they are televising all Australian medal races live. That means you can catch Tom Slingsby going for gold at 2pm British time, which is 11pm in the eastern states and 9pm in Perth. It also probably means that fewer of you will read my newsletter tomorrow because you’ll already know the result, but remember that I will actually be out on the course, will be at the medal ceremony and will talk with Tom about what the medal (hopefully gold but at least silver) means to him. I have re-attached yesterday’s story about how the points pan out, just in case you didn’t read it. Tom’s opponent thinks Tom will match race, and I think he will sail his own race. I spoke with Tom’s coach Michael Blackburn but I knew he wouldn’t tell me what the tactics will be. “It’s a situation he’s been in a lot before,” Michael said with a grin. “There are lots of strategies we have tried and he’ll pick one that works.” The forecast for tomorrow is more of the same. Partly cloudy with WSW winds of 15 to 20 knots, building in the afternoon. Those conditions should suit Tom.
