Replying to:RL28 skeg details.
Ok all you aficionados & experts of all this RL28. I am enquiring about the possible details of what is inside the skeg of my RL28. The aft meter or so is open and empty and through this the old propeller shaft passed, since deceased. Presently I have installed a bilge pump in this sump. Forward of here my skeg is closed off. I am talking about the area say from directly under the forward end of the cockpit to the aft end of the keel case. In other words the galley floor and the gap between the keel case and the little settee berth that forms the aft part of the double berth. In my boat this seems to be the lowest point of the cabin floor and any water that enters or spills accumulates here. Someone before my time has done something here, repairs or whatever, and earlier in my ownership I drilled a hole here but it just seemed to keep going for ever. I would really like to know what is in there before I sharpen up the hole saw. There is not much point in putting an inspection hole if the skeg is solid and there is not much to inspect.
