Return to the Forum ListRL28 Front Hatch Seal | hi, Help needed as I need to replace my seal, and having no joy finding a replacement. I'm even considering replacing the whole hatch. This is not too bad considering the age. Looking forward to your thoughts.

| Re: RL28 Front Hatch Seal | I have posted this message here previously but it may be worth repeating:
The leak usually comes from the seal between the glass and the frame.
The original hatches are Houdini and Muirs at Manly can probably get them but at huge cost. If it can't be repaired, it is better to replace it with another brand.
I was able to repair mine by scraping out all the old sealer with a screwdriver until the glass is loose and then using a sikaflex product to re-seal it. I forget the actual product but call Sikaflex for advice - they are very helpful.
A warning though: The sikaflex is black and the tiniest trace split will cover the entire boat in black splotches so be very careful.
I repaired mine several years ago and it still does not leak - good stuff but horrible to use.

| Re: RL28 Front Hatch Seal | Thanks Keith for your quick responce, but my problem is in the hindges and the rubber perished seal, sealant between the lid the base plate only adds more distrees to the hinges, resulting in more water passing under the seal. The glass area is perfect. Have tried the usual hot spots. If anyone can assist Phone me on 07 54720301.
