Return to the Forum ListYear RL24s were built | For the many people who are interested in the year their boat was built, the main RL24 page now has the sail numbers and the year of manufacture, courtesy of Rob. So provided you know the boat's original sail number, you will be able to determine the date of manufacture.

| Re: Year RL24s were built | Keith,
Is there a way to find out the age of the boat if you do not know the original sail number?
Thanks

| Re: Year RL24s were built | Glenn, unfortunately the boat number was not stamped into the hull except in surveyed boats, RL28 and RL34 only. The closest you are likely to get is the Mark number. The RL24 page has some clues for identifying the Mark.

| Re: Year RL24s were built | Keith,
Thanks for that. I have looked at both the descritions and the drawings supplied on the website. The configuration downstairs as shown on the drawings of Mark II and Mark III is the most helpful. We have the icebox on one side and the stove space on the other, so I am thinking Mark III. Would that be right?
The more obvious element of our RL is that it has a fixed keel. We had the plate covering the keel bolts off late last year and the fittings and fibreglass look as though this was as it came from the factory. There is no evidence of a retro-fit. Were there fixed keel RL24s produced?
Thanks

Six fixed keel RL24s were built for Sydney, they were a special order for a dealer who liked the boats, but, could not see centreboard boats of that size ever being popular in Sydney. At the factory we also set up a 24 with the same keel as a JOG, and it was very successful, but a real pain getting it off and on a trailer when sailed at away events.
