Return to the Forum List | Re: I have to drill for speed/temp/depth - where is the best place | Sorry Martin, I didn't read the question correctly.
I found the best location for the speed sensor was under the seat just forward of the galley, 300 mm from the centreline where the hull is still flattish. The RL28 hull angle is too steep forward of the keel where the manufacturers recommend, whereas around the galley area is far enough back from the keel to avoid too much turbulance. Further forward is probably better for the depth readings but there is nowhere suitable for mounting it without encroaching on foot room under the table.
You do need good access to the transducer so it can be removed quckly for cleaning, without flooding the boat, even if the transducer housing has a valve.
But you should calibrate it with a GPS at slow and high speed. You will probably find it under-reads at higher speeds.

| | Re: I have to drill for speed/temp/depth - where is the best place | I have a depth sensor in the port forward locker secured with silicon and pointing forward ahead of the keel. There is no hole needed stuck on the solid fibreglass hull.
My paddle wheel is mounted in the engine well to the port of the well opening so its outside the hull in the wet well where it can't leak.
