Most new 10 hp four strokes are bigger than older models and don't easily fit in any of the wells in older yachts.
Most people who opt to replace their old outboards end up cutting fiberglass away and raising the tiller to clear the powerhead on the new outboards.
In addition, many of the new outboards don't have high thrust propellers in reverse which limits their usefulness with displacement hulls.
Also the weight of the bigger outboards makes removal for servicing more of an issue. Many of the 10hp outboards are 15hp outboards de-rated, hence a lot bigger and heavier.
Hi all,
Thanks for your replies, problem now solved, have purchased a 15hp Yamaha, gotta be better than the poor old 8hp Merc. Will find out this w'end
Cheers Martyn
