Weight differences between RL24 Mark I, II, III and IV
Can anyone advise the differences in weight between RL24 Mark I, II, III and IV?
The RL24 specifications page on this website lists the “sail away” weight as 660kg (Including mast, boom, mainsail and one headsail, excluding spinnaker gear, motor, fuel tanks, batteries, anchors, life jackets, fenders), but doesn’t distinguish between the 4 different models. I’m looking to buy an RL24 but need to ensure the boat + trailer doesn’t exceed our vehicle capacity (only 1300kg). Thanks in advance

Kate, Unfortunately I can't find the weights of the individual models but you might find the biggest issue is the trailer itself and the gear carried in the boat. Some RL24 trailers are very heavy and great to tow with a big 4WD but would exceed your weight limit. The original Mark I and II trailers were much lighter and tilted to make it very easy to load the boat back on. They would meet your requirements. I suspect the Mark IV would not.
To be on the safe side, before buying one, see if the owner will take it to a public weigh bridge for you. Even the local dump might weigh the boat and car, and then just the car for a minimal fee.

Thanks so much for your reply Keith. Given all of this we are looking for a Mark II with a light, single axle trailer, and confirm total weight less than 1300kg to be on the safe side. Thanks again

I had a USA built Mark IV. On the trailer, the total weight was 3100 lbs, or 1400kg. That included tongue weight.
